Pea Patch Island Race
The NCSC held the first Annual Pea Patch Island Picnic Cruise in 1977, when sailors were still permitted to sail to nearby Pea Patch Island. This traditional picnic cruise continued through the mid-eighties. When landing on Pea Patch was prohibited, the event became a long-distance race around the island, known now as the Pea Patch Island Regatta. The date for this annual event is chosen carefully so that the tidal current assures a safe and timely return for the participants. This is a fun and low-key event that, on hot, light-air occasions, is typically punctuated by water-gun and bucket battles.
