Novice Series Race Results (pdf)

E. E. Downing, Sr. Novice Series

The Novice Series was introduced in 1975 as a way for novice skippers to gain experience at the helm, under the guidance of the more experienced racers as their crew. Continued on and off through the late 70s and early 80s, the Novice Series was known as “learn to race days.” In 1998, the estate of former member E. Earl Downing Jr. donated $1000 to the club with the request that it be used to promote the racing program. The Novice Series was named in his honor, and a perpetual trophy inscribed with the names of the winners of the series hangs in the club house. There are 5 Novice Races held throughout the season, and only those who have not placed in either the Spring, Summer, or Fall Series races are eligible to skipper.
