Shiver me timbers--Ahrr!
News
On June 5, twelve pirates showed up at the Club’s sail house, picked up their pirate gear and embarked on a treasure hunt, using Captain Swallow's treasure map and five clues strung along the river. The first cache of treasure was four golden necklaces for the four lady pirates in our group, and the second cache, located under a flowering bush, was a stack of gold doubloons for the eight men folk, who promptly discovered and devoured the chocolate under their golden crust.
After the treasure be found, Captain Swallow with his jolly crew of Robin Hegvik and Khalid Ibrahim hoisted the good old Jolly Roger flag so as to make the other’s blood curdle, and a warning they be sent down to Davey Jones' locker if they try to meddle with me mates. We escaped to "go on the account" (embark on a piratical cruise). It was a fine swashbuckling time, fighting and carousing on the high Delaware River seas. Shiver me timbers!
Ahrrr, those lily livered gentry of New Castle tried to catch us in their three ships: John Stacy, with his son, and Nancy Martin; Earl McMaster, Erik Warner, and Dolly Bellhouse; and Bill Davis, Patrick Martin and his daughter, Ann Gael. But aye, we had a surprise for em if they came too close: water pistols, swords a flashing and scurrilous words ("you son of a biscuit eater" and "scurvy dog") hurled against them. As we turned back to battle the first pursuer, John's son whipped out a water gun, spraying the deck of our pirate ship and us broadside. Captain Swallow, somewhat soaked but still defiant, gave up the helm (but not the ship) to his trusty crew of Robin and Khalid, and after skirmishing a bit more, returned to the mooring as the winds and seas whipped up. -- Norm Yoerg
